I am a fairly competent PC user but entirely new to networking/wireless so it was important to get something of quality. That way, if I had a hard time setting up the router, I’d know it was my fault and not the hardware.
I chose the WRT54GL since it’s highly rated, but most importantly, even though the device seems to be a couple years old, the reviews were NEW–people were still buying it. So I got it despite it being “only” a wireless-G as opposed to Draft-N capable models, and I wasn’t disappointed.
Setup took several hours over a week, which may not sound good, but I work, so whatever. My DSL modem is apparently what experts call ‘complete and utter garbage’ and I didn’t know I had to set it up in bridge mode. I can’t blame Cisco for this as they can’t possibly account for all hardware types in their instructions. Google is the new Help as we all know, and after following some directions that seemed a bit strange, voila! My router is kicking butt. I’m running a PC via direct Ethernet connection, and a MacBook and PS3 via wireless. Web pages and downloads are screaming-fast, and while the router is only 15 feet away, it’s behind a wall but showing 100% signal strength.
So here’s a few amateur pointers:
1. Set up your router using an Ethernet connection.
2. Google search terms covering all of your hardware, including your OS, modem type and model, and ISP name. You would be amazed at how many people are in the exact same situation as you.
3. Remember, there’s at least two passwords involved with wireless, one for the router itself and one as the wireless key. Be paranoid about security; use two different pass keys. If there’s multiple steps you can take for wireless security, do them. Go for WPA2-PSK or the highest level of encryption you can run, and since you can have passwords over 60 characters, use them all!
4. Setup was difficult but before you email Amazon about the “defective” router they sent you, give yourself a week to try and set it up. That’s what I did. Apparently my issue was located between the chair and the keyboard.
5. One more thing, the WRT54GL has no coax input. I’ve never had cable internet, but I believe this is required for you guys.
BEWARE! – kjens –
Beware of this router if you plan to use it for a wireless link to a MacBook. It is not clear from the product description that this router was not really intended to be Mac compatible. However, when reading the installation manual you may begin to get a funny feeling when you notice that all references are PC only. The next clue is an install disc that does not run on the Mac. And finally, after an hour with a support tech on the phone, to be told that “Perhaps a manual work-around might solve the problem,” and “You might want to consider a different router!?!” the deal is sealed! So I returned the Link-Sys, bought an Apple Airport Express, and in about 10 minutes had a wireless internet/printer link that seems to work everywhere in the house. I can’t say whether the Link-Sys is a decent router or not because it never worked for me. The only reason for the 1-star rating is that I couldn’t choose 0 (and maybe the pretty purple color!).

The router didn’t come with the power adapter and cable needed. Amazon refused to supply me one because their partner “warehouesdeals” no longer had the item in stock. Otherwise, a great router. If I could use it.
Wireless Router – C. Guss –
This router was easy to install, only taking minutes. We have been using it for approximately one month, and so far it has been reliable with no problems.

Bought this micro SD card back in June 2008 for about . Crapped out on me last week (July 2010). Seller sent me link to Sandisk. Sandisk says their 5 year warranty does not apply to Bulk Packaging. Seller says their warranty for this product is only 30 days. Still cannot see where it says the warranty is only 30 days on Amazon. But a new one is under , so not a great loss, just expecting a Sandisk product to last longer.

I use these at least twice a week for several hours at a time. I’m hard of hearing and wear a behind-the-ear hearing aid in my right ear. Due to the severity of my hearing loss, it’s a larger BTE aid than is common these days, and so I can’t use in-the-canal headphones (e.g. iPhone headphones), Walkman-style headphones, or smaller over-the-ear headphones.
Now that I’ve been doing more advanced stuff in Warcraft and planning to resume Left 4 Dead and Battlefield with friends in the near future, I needed to do something about this problem as one’s hobby shouldn’t cause physical discomfort, and the discomfort that shouldn’t exist in the first place shouldn’t cause problems in a cooperative setting where you are helping others and they are helping you.
So when I looked for a new headset to replace the existing Plantronics USB headset I’d been using, one of the criteria was “larger earcups”. The smaller earcups I’d been wearing exerted pressure on my hearing aid that caused it to be pushed into my ear and the side of my head. This, combined with the earpieces from my glasses, added up to be pretty uncomfortable and made voice chat unbearable after more than a relatively short time.
I’ve had Sennheiser headphones before and been quite happy with them, so I knew that the sound quality would be good. Reviews of this headset on Amazon looked great and from the photos it looked like the earcups were indeed larger than my current headset. And the earcups of my Sennheiser headphones were soft enough that I didn’t find them uncomfortable to wear over long periods of time.
I’ve been quite pleased with this headset, although the ability to adjust the earcups back and forth a bit (e.g. tilt forward, vertical, and tilt backward) in addition to the fit of the headband would be welcome; the positioning of the earcups is largely dictated by the fit of my hearing aid, and so the headband isn’t always where I would like it to be. It’s quite tolerable, though. The headband is wide and well-cushioned and the weight of the headset is easily bearable — in fact, it’s not so light that it feels flimsy or cheap and yet not so heavy as to cause neck or head aches.
Finally, those I play with have no complaints about the microphone quality and report that my voice is clear once the microphone Levels setting is adjusted properly — at least in the current version of Ventrilo. I have yet to test the microphone with the built-in voice chat system in World of Warcraft, as it is rarely used (a shame, as I like its ability to display on-screen who is talking, but that’s not a fault of this headset!).
This headset does not have a push-to-talk button as some do, but a set of leftover USB dictation control pedals left over from a past job combined with a utility that translates a pedal press into a keypress takes care of that easily. Perhaps that, too, could be a feature for a future model, although that might be a bit too “niche” for Sennheiser and not an optimal way to toggle a microphone, anyway.
I would, however, like to see a USB version of this headset, as I’ve found USB preferable to using the front-panel connectors on my PC. It was easy enough to purchase a USB audio adapter to convert the in/out connectors to a single USB plug, but others may not want to do that or may not be aware that such adapters exist.
Definitely recommended. My “old” USB headset will be finding its way to a guildmate who’s younger, and so has smaller ears than I do; she also doesn’t wear a hearing aid.

ATH-700AD vs Sennheiser PC-350 – B. Knapik – cleveland, ohio
I started looking for an awesome headset for LANs and as a secondary pair (to my ATH-AD700). My Icemat Siberias finally broke after 5-6 years of use (fatal!ty rests its soul). I didnt care for all these non-flexible headsets that are branded by the big names in gaming headsets. Finally, I found these, the Sennheiser PC350. It looked to have everything I needed, but was it everything?
Tested: Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Team Fortress 2, Heavy Metal Music
- Pros: Sound quality, Mic Quality, Noise Canceling.
Putting them on for the first time, the sound quality for gaming was pretty nice. The bass was surprisingly good as bullets went off, near and far. The attached mic is flexible to a point. There is a part of the boom that is flexible so you can move the mic closer or farther away from your mouth. The only downside is that its not detachable, which is not a downer for me.
However, the sound quality for music was a bit lacking compared to my 700s. I have heard that open headsets are better for sound quality and now I hear why. This is not just an audiophile thing, you can hear the difference. The music sounded a bit distorted and the initial bass only helped create a headache.
As for the noise canceling, it does a good job for a closed headset. The downside though is that I am used to being able to talk to friends close by while gaming. This requires one side off my ear at all times, otherwise I will not be able to hear them. However, if you are tired of having noise all around you while gaming, this can help greatly.
- Cons: Comfort, For some, the build quality feels a bit flimsy
Again, putting them on for the first time, it almost immediately felt wrong. Before adjusting it, it started to squeeze my head. Once I did adjust it, that did get rid of most, but not completely. As for long use wear time, I would say about 2-3 hours. Beyond that, be prepared for a headache or sweaty ears from time to time. As with any closed headset, it does get warm after awhile and your ears start to get hot.
The build quality is better than most that I have seen, and could most likely take a decent amount of abuse, but I would not push it. The reason this is a con though is because my 700s feel ALOT more solid than this.
Overall: Sadly, they did not replace my ATH-AD700s as my primary pair. My 700s are just too comfy to let go. However, these Sennheisers do stand up and are noticed for gaming.
Comfortable, but doesn’t play nice with onboard sound – Scott Pollert –
Very comfortable, though your ears can get a bit warm from being completely closed off to outside air. Sound is good, if a bit weak. Based on other reviews, it’s probably because I’m using onboard sound and not a separate card. Microphone is good and construction is very sturdy. I expect this to last me a couple of years.
A beautiful product but ultimately a return – Mac on Maui – Maui, Hawaii
I bought these for the purpose of recording podcasts, calling on Skype, and general music listening at the computer. The combination of Sennheiser’s reputation and the price (8 on Amazon) were too great to resist.
Pros:
* The 350′s craftsmanship is evident right out of the box.
* The headset is comfortable and very lightweight.
* When listening to music, the instruments are distinct and everything is very clear.
Cons:
* Poor bass and no “punch.” Other reviewers had cautioned about the high impedance and this may be the source of the problem. However, buying more gear to improve the sound is one rabbit hole I won’t be going down.
* The inline controls are spartan at best.
I think a better approach for me would be to buy a serviceable headset, then music-specific headphones. No knock at all against Sennheiser, but they just weren’t for me.
Giving this product three stars seems a little odd, but I can’t give it four due to the disappointing music sound quality.

This is a direct replacement for the 12-DISC CD Magazine that came with the GM factory installed 12-DISC changer in my 2003 Corvette.
Form, Fit and Function are excellent! I bought two and both equally work the same. I have had these for just over a month at the time of this review and fully loaded, switched back and forth multiple times with no hangups. They also have functioned in many different outside temperature ranges from the mid teens and as high as low 90′s after being left in the car. It’s not super compact. It’s easy to use if you don’t want to get complicated but no point in paying this much for a camera if you want to point and shoot.
The lens isn’t very long. Great wide angle and decent portrait length but that’s it.
The removable lens cap concerned me but having the extra protection for the lens is worth the extra effort keeping track of the cap.
The camera has manual focus, manual control of aperture and shutter, RAW capability, fast f2.0 lens with thin depth of field and decent macro. It also has simple control of the auto focus point, simple access to exposure compensation and force flash.
You must remove the battery to charge it so a backup battery might be worth considering. The battery takes a few hours to fully charge.
The included RAW processing software (Silkypix) is easy to use but I’ve started to use the Photoshop capability simply because it’s convenient to launch straight into Photoshop after processing.
Careful with lens cleaning solution. Less than a drop was enough to fog the inside of the lens which took a day to dry out. Since I’ve used only SLRs I don’t know if this is a common compact camera problem or one unique to this one.
Overall, it’s a great camera for someone who wants creative options not available in many compacts.
Biggest bang for the buck – Smart_Kilted_Man – United States
Just a great all around camera, offering both auto and manual modes for getting more creative…great macro, clean vid mode. I bought the adapter and wide angle lens and it serves me very well for my real estate sales needs! Great wide shots with minimal barelling.
Replacement for this camera just announced: LX5 – a scientist –
I have lusted after this camera for over a year. If you’re looking at it, chances are you probably want something in between a compact camera and a digital SLR. This one has a great lens (wide angle plus no need to use the flash too much), bigger sensor (less noise), and just the right amount of bells and whistles. However, Panasonic has just launched a successor to this camera as of July 21st, 2010. It’s available for pre-order now.
My context
To give you the context of my own situation, my last two digital cameras have been Panasonic compactss and I’ve been very happy with them. I own one of the early ultra-zooms and really liked the amount of light that the large lens let in at the wide end. I also own one of the wide-angle compacts and I really like the ability to take landscapes that a wide-angle allows.
As a side note, I’ve also tried a few Casios (EX-S1, EX-S500) and a few Canons. I no longer recommend most Casios: the two models that I’ve used both discharge their batteries when not in use. I am impressed by Canon’s SD series, which are very reliable, but I’ve never found them as exciting in terms of features as the Panasonics. I’ve also noticed that Canon tends to let other companies innovate (slim size, long zoom, wide-angle compact) and then creates a competitor. This explains why Panasonic remains my favourite camera maker.
Dream camera?
Imagine my excitement at discovering my favourite camera maker made my dream camera: a wide-angle, large-lensed camera that supposedly produces great images and does not require much use of the flash. I was smitten.
Unfortunately, when I tried the LX3 in stores, I found it was bulky and did not have an integrated lens cap (the downside of all that glass). But the real surprise for me was how slow it was to record the images. I also found the zoom very limiting. So I didn’t buy it, and now I’m glad I didn’t.
Successor
Panasonic has just launched the LX5, which has the same bulk and lens cap. In fact, it may even be slightly bulkier with an enlarged grip. However, it now has more zooming power (and note that unlike the Canon S90, this camera lets a lot of light in even when zoomed in – that means fewer accidental flashes when you’re trying to shoot landscapes at sunset/sunrise, or get close to that squirrel that you’re trying to watch stuff its face), and improved handling. There’s also more movie capability. Panasonic claim to have speeded up the camera, but I’ve yet to try one out and see if it’s as disappointingly slow as the LX3.
Is it worth it?
The last word on this will be the price. I think that the sweet spot for a camera like this is probably 4/5 of the MSRP, which is where its biggest competitor (the S90) is. My take on it is that if you like the handling (bulk, speed, lens cap), you can’t get a better compact camera. In the grand scheme of things, the price difference probably isn’t as important as the pictures you’ll take. This camera will be hard to improve upon, if only because of the laws of physics! When the S90 successor comes out, they may lengthen the zoom (probably at the expense of low light performance and noise on the sensor) and finally improve the control wheel, which I just didn’t like. Panasonic is using a recessed thumbwheel in its newer models that I really prefer.
As for me, I’ve decided I want an even wider angle and an even larger sensor (to get even less noise), so I’m going for the GF1. I was surprised with how much better it felt to use than the LX3, even though there isn’t too much difference in size (GF1 is 50% heavier … without a lens!). The control wheel is great and the camera is pretty quick. I’ll review that one soon.
Still a contender, 24 months later… – Alvin Wong – Staten Island, NY United States
There’s a reason why the Lumix LX3 has no shortage of rave reviews; this is a camera that yields amazing pictures. Panasonic has made huge improvements in image processing between the LX1 model of 2005, and the LX3 of 2008. The LX3 is my first compact digicam that I can confidently use at ISO 400 and higher. With my older LX1, I was very reluctant to go above ISO 200. When you combine the improved higher ISO performance with the extremely fast lens, you have a camera that can be used in virtually any level of light from bright outdoor scenes to dimly lit interiors.
The LX3 is not the best camera for a beginner; it has a lot of features (perhaps too many) and lacks a wide zoom range. Also, the LX3 is quite thick compared to other models. But these trade-offs are more than balanced by the LX3′s image quality and the ultra fast lens.

Failure after 18 months, no Apple support – Ripped Off – UK
Originally a very nice machine that functioned well. After 18 months the machine froze and won’t re-boot. After following all of the online solutions I came to realise what a non-user firendly system this is. An exasperated amateur at the Apple “helpline” clearly did not have a clue what the problem is and sent me a gibberish solution to my woes that requires the used to have a functioning machine to implement. Unfortunetely I have this product so have no chance of implementing the solution (even if I understood what it means). I’ll not be buying another Apple product again and am going to cancel my firm’s contract for new i-phones and any other junk from this manufacturer until I am convinced that they actually provide fit for purpose product. Avoid unless you’re willing to lose everything you save after 18 months, buy a new machine at great expense and start all over again. Oh look, mine just got stuck in the repair programme again! Pile of junk.

What I have noticed about eGo 34616 is that neither design nor the operation is compromised. It does all that it is expected of. The red one was out of stock so I got the silver one. Based on how this one continues, I will soon get a red eGo as well. Anyways I will need two more.
Added attraction is the Drop guard. Wish all hard drives and disks had this feature. A lot of repair-spend caused from fall can be avoided…

I read the reviews and took my chances because I have 3 other DESKTOP Iomega Hard Drives that have performed for me for over a year each. I trusted Iomega. It is small beautiful lightweight and portable – all the things I was looking for in a PORTABLE external hard drive. I bought this item a month ago and it has already failed me. I had first loaded it with my music and pictures – maybe 150 Gig was used, and it seemed to perform just fine. Luckily I hadn’t erased the source material. The minute I backed up my work laptop to it (another 10 gig) and erased my laptop hard drive – the drive started making that horrible clicking noise. NOTHING could get the drive to work, not even breaking it free of the casing and attaching it to a SATA drive PC to try reading directly from the drive itself – also – because I broke it out of the casing to try and save the data, I can’t even return the stupid thing! I also ended up paying for recovery software to try and recover the missing data from the laptop hard drive! I am now in the market for another one and it wont be this item – I am very disappointed- Caveat emptor!! Buyer beware.

I did a lot of research and homework before buying the Sanyo VPC-CG102 video camera. This video camera will take lousy video/photo in a dim or dark environment. The Sanyo VPC-CG102 can and does take great video/photo in a well lighted environment. I use this video camera only for outdoors video/photo and am very please with the results. Viewing the video on a HD wide screen television is just outstanding. The video camera comes with a HDMI port without the HDMI cable being supply. I brought a HDMI cable for only 97 cents and it seems to work alright. The supplied 700mAh battery last me for approximately 1 hour of video on a 16gb SDHC Class 6 card. I brought 2 spare 1100mAh batteries from Amazon.com which gives me enough batteries for a day of shooting video. There was no video editing software supply with the Sanyo VPC-CG102 camera but Sanyo recommended three software packages. Adobe Premiere Elements 8 being one of them and it is an video software package that I have installed on my computer. I had no problems editing, processing and burning a DVD-R video disc. Windows Live Movie Maker also can be use to process and burn an video disc. This video camera uses the MPEG-4 codec and it’s video files has the extension of .MP4. No manual came with this video camera but Sanyo directed the user to a web site that have an emanual for the Sanyo VPC-CG102 that I downloaded to an USB flash drive. I highly recommend this video camera for anyone who likes to shoot video in a well lighted area. I do not recommend this video camera for use in any dim or dark area. Because I am using the Sanyo VPC-CG102 only in a well lighted environment I gave it a rating of 5 stars as the video view on a HDTV is just outstanding, the best that I have seen from any HD video camera.

I love this camcorder! Takes great video in HD. The only thing I wish it had was a mic jack for an external mic. Other than that, it’s a great camcorder for the price!

i really want to love this product. however, i’m still working on the software for it. i need to upgrade. thinking about upgrading to the adobe premiere sanyo recommends. also, the quality isn’t great, but suppose its par for the $. any panning, zooming is a little jumpy. low level lighting is pretty poor too. But outside, with minimal movement. its a beautiful image. plus expandable media, digital files, good improvement over tapes.

It’s just what we wanted and more. Quality,and simplicity is excellent. Only disappointment is that you have to do a little work to get the full instruction manual and at over 100 pages on line it takes a while to read, but the instructions are clear. Very much recommend the item and look forward to continuing to enjoy. Close to perfect.
